Briefing

Ever since my childhood, I've been an avid fan of SEGA's Phantasy Star video game series. Recently, I've been playing the latest installment of the franchise – Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. In my quest to improve my gaming skills, I turned to YouTube and began watching veteran players for some valuable tips and tricks.

One name stood out among the players – Keroppi. More than a game's player, he's also an official content creator for SEGA, dedicated to delivering daily content focused on NGS. Recognizing an exciting opportunity, we joined forces to craft a fresh and dynamic motion brand for his YouTube channel.

Keroppi's new logo and brand identity required a strategic overhaul for a cohesive presence across his YouTube and social media platforms. We developed a distinctive logotype using Xonda typography, which suited Keroppi's lighthearted and straightforward style, with its playful, curved features resonating with the game's futuristic themes.

Inspired by Japanese typographic animations, the logotype's animation has an animé-like quality, aligning with Keroppi's content and the game's aesthetics. This approach created a strong visual connection with his audience, establishing a unified and recognizable brand identity for Keroppi.

The typography Xonda was used to create his new logotype. Since he is a very lighthearted YouTuber giving simple tips and explanations about the game, Xonda seemed a very good typographic choice representing this trait. Also, the font with its curved features give a futuristic sense that makes an excellent match with the game's theme.

The animation of the logotype was inspired by some japanese typographic animations, giving a vibe of an 'animé-like' style of an opening sequence and again making reference to the game's aesthetics.

The intro sequence is pivotal for establishing a YouTuber's brand identity. Inspired by Keroppi's love for Japanese animé openings, we crafted a 15-second animation storyboard. This intro captures the game's dynamic action, futuristic aesthetics, and vibrant visual effects, including weapons and accessories.

Each character was illustrated with Keroppi's in-game characters as references. While the main character, the blue-haired girl, kept her signature look, other characters and their weapons were redesigned to provide a fresh, unique aesthetic, ensuring originality and individuality.

The Outro was designed to contrast the fast-paced Intro, offering a more calm conclusion. Inspired by animé closing sequences, it featured a Cinquem Sword from the game carved onto the floor, set against a serene blue background.

For the Outro, the idea was to create a kind of contrast with the Opening Sequence. When we watch Keroppi's content the excitement of it must be present and in the end it's time to relax.

So, again based on animé's closing sequences, the Outro takes form in a Cinquem Sword (one of the game's weapon), carved in the floor over a blue background with same aesthetics presented on the intro, showing the info of Keroppi's other social media channels.

This tranquil scene provided a relaxing atmosphere for viewers to absorb the video's content. The main information about Keroppi's social media channels was displayed, ensuring a cohesive and visually engaging end to the video.

Incorporating a unique segment near the end of his videos, Keroppi initiated a "Shout Out" to acknowledge and express gratitude to his supporters. To conceptualize this section, inspiration was drawn from the Region MAG system within the game.

Region MAGs, characterized by their large spherical robot design, are distributed across different regions of the game's map. Players collaborate to feed these MAGs, thereby earning valuable power-ups. This game mechanic served as a fitting concept for this section.

While Xonda was employed as the primary display typography, Manrope was introduced to enhance readability, especially in sections with smaller-sized text and content. This typographic combination ensured that viewers could easily engage with the shout-outs and supporter recognition in Keroppi's videos.

To complete Keroppi's channel branding, several essential graphic elements were crafted. Leveraging the new aesthetics established for the Intro as a key visual reference, we designed a head banner that prominently displayed his social media channels.

Additionally, a template for video thumbnails was created, ensuring consistency and a cohesive look for all his video content. These graphic pieces not only enhanced the overall channel presentation but also reinforced Keroppi's unique visual identity, making his content easily recognizable and engaging for viewers.
